The site is located at the Jeju Ilbo intersection in the central district of New Jeju City. To the south of the site is the ocean. To the north of the site is Jeju’s iconic natural landmark of Mount Halla. The massing of the building is divided into two parts - a tower and a podium. Lotte’s flagship duty-free is in the podium. A business hotel occupies the tower. Additionally, banquet rooms and a sky lounge are planned as the hotel facilities. Once completed, this building will be the tallest on Jeju Island. The podium urbanistically occupies the intersection while creating a stable base for the tower. Reminiscent of the natural curves of the Jeju landscape, the podium is morphed on the northern and eastern facades by a radial massing. The tower’s stone facade is created by rhythmic vertical patterns. Again, working from an urbanistic approach, a 5 story glass lantern marks the corner of the intersection. The lantern tower is designed as an open space for people to rest and communicate from both inside and outside.
